Dear tech bloggers,

Please stop migrating your content to private email lists.

Creating a private subscription-based email distribution list reeks of conceit at best and douchebaggery at worst.

You are not Stephen fucking King.

If your thoughts and words are good, share them. Make them discoverable. Expose your ideas to people around the globe. That’s the beauty of the Internet. Not for you to make $3. Besides, is that really the price tag you put on your thoughts? If your content is really that good, let it free. You will reap the rewards many times over.

I wouldn’t subscribe to anyone but a friend. And if they are a friend, why the fuck am I paying?

I like Sam Lessin’s ideas about the value of information being inversely proportional to how many people know it. Except that it isn’t true for the very kind of information sold through letterly: punditry. The value of a pundit is proportional to distribution. That is why there are so many idiot pundits: they don’t need to be smart - just popular.
