Rumors about Elman’s joining Twitter had been bubbling in the tech backchannels in recent days, and while he has not yet made announcement of the move, thanks to Twitter’s new list feature, you could see his account added to the company’s official Twitter team late tonight. That Twitter “Team” list now sports 113 members, including part-time contractors.
hmm. no need to send out that obligatory email now. just check the twitter company lists to find out who is changing jobs
louisgray.com: Twitter Snags Platform Manager Josh Elman From Facebook

I can only hope Fred’s comment is tongue in cheek, else I’d expect some red koolaide stains on his chin and shirt. A feature that launched not a few weeks ago, that hasn’t yet proven itself, is not the important point here. The story could have been about updating a facebook or linked in profile.
But let me take this opportunity to both congratulate Josh, and express my open disappointment at facebook for letting someone this smart get away. The isn’t a twitter-vs-facebook issue, as I’ve mentioned many times I actively use both and both can thrive. This is about how easy it should be to find something meaningful for you at a good organization.
Then again, Zuckerburg just gave a great talk at Startup School where he mentioned that he doesn’t expect that the best hackers would want to stay at Facebook forever, and that is ok. His reasoning is that the motivation to make great things both brings them to facebook and will take them away.
