Over the last two years at Dropbox, I’ve learned an incredible amount, and for that I’m very grateful. I’d never been at a company while it grew headcount by 7X. Helping the service grow so fast was awesome. It is an important company, and I recommend it as a great place to work.
However, I’m very excited to announce that I’m doing a new startup.
Getting here has been an amazing journey. Recently, I happened to be looking back into some old emails and found one from October 2006 which had the idea that eventually became Tipjoy. Then came Y Combinator in winter 2008.
In 2009, as Tipjoy was running out of runway, I was thinking a lot about what we had done wrong and how to do it differently going forward. This lead to my focus on metrics and driving growth at Facebook and especially Dropbox. But there is so much more than that: building a team, creating an organization that people feel driven to join, and making something people want.
These are some of the things I’m thinking about as I embark on this next venture. It is quite nascent, and I’ll have much more to say publicly soon. Till then, get in touch: firstname.lastname@example.org
