White Wanda and Black Desi prove that HP Computers are racist.

“I think my blackness is interfering with the computer’s ability to follow me”.

This had me rolling on the floor.  Desi’s commentary for the win.

The funny thing is that making a skin detector is actually a common task for people doing computer vision work as I have. Surprisingly, if you segment by color, black and white people are the same. Seriously, in a HSV space, they are right in the same gaussian that covers all humans.

Face detection is a bit trickier. Standard algorithms could easily be biased if your training set isn’t, err, black enough. It really is a contrast issue, and not a color issue. So if the whites of Desi’s eyes, or the redness of his lips, were more prominent, it would probably work.

I’m astounded this wasn’t picked up in testing. Luckily a software update should be able to solve it.
